Of course, no one knows what the future will bring, and any estimation of the future world will be wrong—have you noticed that the theme music for The Simpsons is the music that was used for The Jetsons? We expected to be George Jetson by the turn of the millennium but, oops no, we were Homer Simpson. Too funny.

But the fact that we’re not good at guessing what’s coming doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with it, or better understand the themes and memes of today by considering possible future trajectories. Here’s an example.

The Suncaster references self-constructing meta-materials, i.e., the “new construction,” super strong and capable of forming complex shapes.  The vision here is of nano-scale materials capable of accepting and following a pre-programmed design to self-assemble into the desired shape. The future we describe is, of course, the Age of Mind, when awareness, and programming, is everywhere.

And why not? Check this out (with thanks to Gizmag), a step in that direction:

Clear future vision.
